Portes du Soleil comprises 12 alpine villages across France and Switzerland creating in excess of 650km of varied pistes, suitable for all levels of skiers from beginners to expert, linked superbly with over 200 chair lifts. There is also a specially built snow-park for free-style skiing and boarding, plus endless opportunities for off-piste skiing.
The SkiOui courtesy buses will transfer SkiOui guests daily to and from the Ardent Ski gondola (journey time 6-8 minutes from Chalet Ste. Maríe and Trompe L'Oeil). Ardent offers a direct route to Avoriaz and into the whole of the Portes Du Soleil ski area some 650Km of pisted ski terrain. Geneva airport transfers from £35 per child, and £40 per adult.
Avoriaz, at an altitude of 1800m, lying along the French Swiss Border, is a unique village with amazing views over Morzine and the Ardoisieres Valley. Unique, because Avoriaz is a village with no cars, where the only means of transport is by foot, ski or snowboard, or indeed horse-drawn sleigh! At the heart of the village lies the Palais des Festivals, with open-air ice-rink and childrens' luge nearby.
Ski Oui can arrange ski and snowboarding lessons for all ages and abilities with the local ski school. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact them directly from their website and arrange your own lessons. Children have their very own "Childrens' Village" in the heart of Avoriaz, a ski school catering for 3-16 year olds. In contrast, for the more advanced skier, the infamous "Swiss Wall" ski run, marked with skull and crossbones at the summit, is arguably one of the steepest and difficult mogul fields in the Alps starting in France and ending in Switzerland. Not for the faint-hearted!
Alternatives to skiing include exploring the mountains on foot, by guided tour, by traditional dog sled, paragliding, in a helicopter or by snowmobile.
